What matters more in hiring – Attitude or Aptitude?

Here is an interesting take from a brief conversation with a Mentee who approached me seeking advice on hiring talent.

Mentee:"Should I hire raw talent?"

Me: Look, Warren Buffett's Mantra is: INTEGRITY, INTELLIGENCE, ENERGY. Without Integrity, other two are meaningless. But I add here, also “ATTITUDE “

Mentee: Why?

Me: Everyone was a fresher once. Skills can be taught. Experience alone should not be the hiring criteria. You need people in your team who are hungry to prove themselves and accept challenges.They also need to fit into the organizational culture.Skills can be taught only if there is willingness to learn.And so, go ahead and hire them if they have:
✔ INTEGRITY
✔ ATTITUDE
✔ INTELLIGENCE
✔ ENERGY
